Are There Limitations to Microneedling Based on Skin Type?

microneedlingCosmetic procedures have quickly become the answer to women’s and men’s goals of looker younger.  A Cosmetic Dermatologist today provides many procedures that are non- invasive, have little to no recovery time and don’t cost you a fortune. One of the most popular is microneedling. If you aren’t familiar with this procedure, it is a process that removes fine lines, wrinkles, acne scarring, stretch marks and other blemishes on the neck, face, hands, arms, back and legs.

The question is “Is this procedure going to work with my skin type?”  We all have different skin types so you will definitely want to discuss your particular goals with your dermatologist to determine what will work for you. Most of the new cosmetic procedures can be used on anyone, no matter what skin type they have.

Microneedling Works on All Skin Types

Some people are limited to the types of skin rejuvenation procedures they can undergo due to their skin type. However, microneedling is different, since it works effectively on any and all skin types.

The procedure doesn’t involve lights, lasers or chemicals, which is why it can be used on anyone. This procedure simply utilizes micro-needles to puncture the skin and promote new skin growth. It’s still recommended to see your dermatologist prior to signing up for a procedure, just in case there are other skin conditions you may have.

How About The Side Effects?

Most patients will experience some skin redness for a couple days following the procedure. During this time, you may experience some sensitivity to the sun until the skin is completely healed. Other than this minor irritation, most patients will experience no other side effects.

What to Expect Before, During and After Microneedling Treatments

You need to visit your dermatologist for a consultation prior to undergoing collagen induction therapy. Then when you go in for your appointment, your dermatologist will set the pen like device on the appropriate setting, depending on the amount of skin damage and the location of the treatment. Once it’s settled, you will feel a slight discomfort on the area being treated, but nothing more than the feeling of sandpaper gliding across your skin.

Each treatment should take around 30 minutes and you are free to leave immediately. If you can deal with the slight discomfort, you can even go straight to work when you get out of the chair. And remember, your skin type has no effect on how the procedure works or the recovery time!
